Around 1780, Sophia and Henry Clement, Margaret and Godfrey Ratz, Johann Adom Schweissguth and Phillip Schweissguth moved to Rowan County, NC. They settled near Tyro Wagon Shops. The four familes recived many land grants.

Adam first worked at the Tyro Wagon Works repairing wagons. The Thompson family was the owners of the shop.

At Adam's death he owned 1,050 acres. Some of his land grants were - #1134, 25 Oct., 1786 for 200 acres; #1798, 18 May, 1789 for 320 acres; #1925, 18 May, 1789 for 500 acres; #2353, 17 Jul., 1794 for 40 acres. #1798 was assigned to both Adam Swicegood and his brother-in-law, Godfrey Ratz.

Sandy Creek Cemetery is the original plot for the Swicegood Meeting House congregation. Adam and Catherine Swicegood donated land in 1790 for the original church and cemetery. The Church was moved into Tyro and is now called St. Luke's Lutheran Church.

He married Nancy Elizabeth Taylor 21 Aug., 1824 in Rowan County, NC. Nancy was born 1786. Nancy died 1841 at 55 years of age. He married America Minor est. 1842. America died 1862.
